Organizational background
Parivartan Kendra began as a women’s group in 2004 on 23rd of March, martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, with a vision of empowering women to fight for livelihood rights, their leadership and fight against various forms of violence in society. This group also had some gender sensitive men supporting them. The group was formally registered as an NGO in the year 2007. Now Parivartan Kendra primarily works with women, youth especially adolescent boys and girls and children. Parivartan especially works in the Dalit communities which is the most marginalized communities in Bihar .
The major activities of the organization over last four years include organizing women, youth especially adolescent girls and children and building awareness around the issues related to livelihood rights, leadership and violence especially domestic violence. Self Help Groups (SHGs) are also formed at the village level to enable the women to take up small savings and credit activities and to facilitate access to economic development programs from the government so that they are able to empower themselves economically. Parivartan is carrying out a wide range of awareness programs on various issues like Right to Livelihood Resources, Health, Education, Sanitation, Access to Government Schemes, Women Empowerment, Etc.
In the last four years, Parivartan Kendra is working on different issues namely Child Rights Program, Empowerment of Adolescents, Flood Relief Program, Human Rights Resource Centre, counseling and legal support to mainly the women victims of domestic violence, Leadership Building Program, Panchayati Raj Institution members capacity building programme, Youth Cadre Building Program, Women’s Economic Empowerment through SHGs, Organization Building Program, various awareness programs on education, government schemes for marginalized, general health awareness and sanitation, and HIV/AIDS. With that the baseline survey on life and livelihood of the marginalized Dalit and poor people.
